Katakis Visual Diary Artists think on paper. And each artist approaches a painting differently. Some research their subject ahead of time and make detailed sketches - while others work more spontaneously.

Whether composing a still life or selecting a landscape site, sketchbooks become invaluable tools for reference back at the studio. This class will help you develop the relationship between your sketches and your finished work.

We will discover how the techniques used to record your thoughts can initiate “creative spark”. You will develop insights into the mechanisms of visual perception, and will also develop observational skills rooted in traditional drawing media.

Pen, pencil, collage and color wash are just a few of the tools that we will be using in this class. Topics include: perceptual drawing, gesture, image development, notan, pochade, intuitive perspective, diagramming ...and just plain fun! Classroom and Albuquerque Museum.

Any artist, any level, working in any medium is welcome.
