Why are some paintings more intriguing to look at than others, even when the likeness is good, the proportions right and the colors match?
The goal of this class is to make pictorial composition easy to understand, remember and apply. You will learn tools to identify weaknesses and what you can do to make your paintings better.
Each class begins with a demonstration and lecture in order for the student to gain a better understanding of how to work with different aspects of composition. We will cover visual dynamics, tension, variation, balance, focal points, tonal values, contrast, patterns and more - all elements of design that create interesting paintings.
Students are asked to bring in a variety of items to compose with to explore the possibilities of a still life they will be excited to paint!
