Vasili Katakis: The Visual Diary, From Sketching to Drawing to Painting (Thursdays)

Sketching ranges from a process to be enjoyed, in and of itself, all the way to the “thoughts” for a finished painting. You will discover new ideas, methods and techniques designed to enable the beginner and advance the seasoned artist. 

This course will show how sketch artists “see” what they will sketch, and the techniques used to capture what was seen. Ultimately, you will learn how to sketch any subject you like, using any tool you want. Course topics will include: seeing abstract patterns, using the “cone of vision,” squinting and counting, defining edges, line weight, understanding short-cuts to perspective and more. This class will occasionally take place on location but is primarily in the studio. Please sign up early; class size is limited. 

A $5 materials fee will be collected by the instructor at the first class.
