This class will explore the different ways pastel color can be used. The unique nature of the pastel medium makes it different from wet media because all of the effects are instantaneous, as there is no waiting for pigment or glazing to dry. This characteristic allows for greater flexibility and a deeper understanding for the methods used in exploring color.
The class will apply color on various grounds: textured, sanded and toned. Topics include: color notan, color study, color interaction, local color, broken color, color mixing, finished work, and establishing your own palette. Techniques include: texturing, toning, strokes, feathering, layering, scumbling, shading, blending, and underpainting.
Please sign up early; class size is limited.
