The GOLDEN Lecture-Demo with Phil Garrett

This Golden lecture/demo is a two-hour free educational presentation that covers in depth, the acrylic paints, gels and mediums that Golden has been well known for since it started making paint in the 1980s. It covers information about the different types of pigments, different viscosities and types of paints, grounds and color mixing. 

You will learn how to extend paint to save money, and how to mix paints with gels to create unique textural surfaces. Learn how to use different products to make surfaces for watercolors, graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, oil and soft pastels. Techniques for the use of iridescent and metallic paints will be shown. The lecture covers the lightfastness of pigments, proper acrylic priming techniques, digital mixed media applications , correct varnishing tips and health and safety concerns. 

A packet of literature and free samples of paint and gels will be available for all those who attend.


Phil Garrett, a graduate of The San Francisco Art Institute,  has completed numerous artists’ residencies including The Sam And Adele Golden Foundation residence in New Berlin NY, taught painting and  printmaking nationally and internationally. He joined the Golden Artist Colors Working Artist Program in 1998 and the Williamsburg Oil Independent Artist Program in 2016. He is the Founder of King Snake Press and his prints and paintings are in public and private collections in the USA, Europe and Japan. In October 2005, 2006 and 2007 he lectured and taught workshops on acrylic painting methods in art schools in the cities of Osaka, Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto and Fukuoka, Japan sponsored by Golden Acrylic and Turner company of Osaka. He is the author of  the book INSIDE ACRYLICS published by North Light Books in August of 2013. New Mexico, Rome, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and Peru, and has been featured in New American Paintings twice: in the 2015 West issue and the 2013 MFA issue.
