In the Western Art Tradition, the dramatic and sculptural form of the human figure has influenced artists for centuries.
In this five-day workshop, Cynthia will help the student learn the visual language of painting necessary to achieve a visually compelling image of the figure.
This language includes a thorough understanding of shape, form, value, gradations, weight, mass, edges, light and paint handling, all as they relate to the figure.
The first day, students will delve into the figure with gestural and structural studies, in burnt umber and white. By limiting color, the student can further concentrate on a thorough modeling of sculptural form without the complications of a full palette. Building on these studies, the next four days will be devoted to a longer poses, adding more color as the student begins to think in this new visual language.
Take a week to explore and examine the beautiful and classical forms of this most fascinating of subjects, the human figure.
Note: There will be a $45 model fee to be paid to the instructor.
