Join artist/printmaker extraordinaire, Maria Lilly, for this fun adventure into the world of printmaking! The relief print is one of the oldest and simplest methods of printmaking and a brilliant way to create multiples of your artwork. This unique medium is very graphic and throughout history, in addition to fine art, has be used to make posters, cards, and book illustrations. Similar to the woodcut, a linocut has no grain which makes cutting and designing much easier. This class will focus on the black and white linocut, concentrating on creating light and shadow with different types of marks and lines. Students will create bold black and white prints (or color) which can include lettering if desired. There will be time to make two or three blocks resulting in 2-3 editions, as time permits. Students may add watercolor after the print is dry for extra depth and life, sometimes compared to a stained glass effect. You will be so happy with the results!

Please sign up early; class size is limited to 10 students.

Do you love to paint and draw? Are you interested in studying art in college or becoming a professional artist one day? Join artist and teacher, Susan Roden, for a comprehensive skill building course covering many areas of study in two dimensional art. Students will have fun exploring multiple painting, drawing and design projects, and finish with artwork that could be included in a portfolio for admission to a university art program. As well as making your own work, you will look at and learn from artists of the past and present to fuel your own unique art. Come ready to ask questions, share ideas and create. This is a no-pressure environment where all levels are welcome. Individual guidance and constructive feedback will be given.
