Fresh, intentional paint strokes will be the order of the day, rather than over-analyzed perfectionism. Working with a palette knife pushes the artist to make direct and decisive strokes which in turn creates a strong and energetic painting. This workshop will be inspired by the modern exploration of painting commonplace objects in a mixed style of abstract expressionism and color field painting. Think Wayne Thiebuad and Richard Diebenkorn… Emphasis will be placed on seeing shapes and values as abstract forms and expressive color values. Impasto paint quality will be easily achieved with use of the palette knife. Each class will begin with a brief visual lecture and demo by the instructor followed by uninterrupted painting time during which students will complete one painting per day, alla prima.
Please sign up early; class size is limited.
