Portrait painting from life is one of the most intimate disciplines in the visual arts; although it is also sometimes one of the most intimidating. Have you ever wondered what the secret is to capturing the likeness of your subject? Or maybe there are certain features of a portrait that you want to more proficiently create? In this four-day intensive course Colt will discuss the process of creating a portrait painting from observation while delving into how it is that the specific articulation of each feature culminates in a painting that depicts the likeness of the subject at hand. This course is an opportunity to learn about light, form, and the ins-and-outs of what leads to a successfully constructed portrait. Each student will spend the entire course going through the process of creating a single finished oil painting. Each morning Colt will demonstrate, break for lunch, then students will get each afternoon to work on their own piece, supplemented by one-on-one instruction.
Please sign up early; class size is limited.
